Bluey plushie pattern!
My daugther asked for the full set of Bluey characters this year for Christmas and I was *almost* tempted to run to the store and get the plastic figurines before I blurted out (every crafters’ famous last words) “I CAN MAKE THEM”! And so I did!!!!! I set out to make the Heeler family with as many of the characters as I could finish before Christmas morning (Bluey, Bingo, Bandit, Chili, Rusty and Muffin to start)! 🙂 The FREE PDF PATTERN
I am a HUUUUUUGE lover of felt (like so big, I could preach on my soapbox)! I love the material so so much because the edges can be raw (not needing to be “tucked” into a sewn garment or item), it is SO easy for kids and adults to sew on a machine or hand-stitched AND the colors are well….so colorful! 🙂 You can use polyester felt (the inexpensive kind that comes in sheets from Michaels or your local craft store) OR you can use wool blend felt (a personal fave of mine because the colors seem more endless AND the felt is thicker and more substantial), but honestly both are amazing and I have used both in many MANY projects! 🙂
So grab your “Bluey colors of felt” (I referenced the Bluey website and their drawings to get colors as close as possible) and get stitching with the PDF of characters below (and keep in mind that these are all hand drawn, so if you find an easier way to make these or cut out certain shapes PLEASE by all means, do that! These patterns are just my way of making sense of the shapes that make up each character so that they are recognizable)! 🙂

Basically each of the patterns consists of the main body shape and then they features on the face/body as well as the sets hands/feet! I noted the color and how many to cut (as best as possible) – again, reference the Bluey website online for colors (or get them as close as possible)! 🙂
Tips for stitching the body:
- Stitch the top ear part first (the top colored part that matches up with the head….its the dark blue on Bluey and Bandit and the Darker brown on Chili and Bingo)..
- I used black Tulip puff paint for the pupil in the eye. SOOOO you will also want to cut out the eyes fairly early and add the puff paint black center to dry while you are stitching up other things/cutting other things out
- I worked from top down on the head – starting with the ears, eyebrows, then eyes (because you want the snout to kinda cover part of them), then the snout and tummy and nose! 🙂
- I chose to do a simple whip stitch to stitch on the details onto the body and do your best to match the color of thread to the color of felt you are stitching so that the stitches are as “invisible” as possible and don’t distract from the character details
- For both legs and arms, I chose to do the following:
1. Cut out each set together (double layer of felt so that the front and back line up, so essentially 4 arms and 4 legs)
2. Then cut out the “feet” or the “hands” for the front only – this is light blue for Bluey and Bandit and then the tan or off white for Chili and Bingo, white for Muffin and tan for Rusty.
3. I did a simple running stitch along the top straight edge of the hands/feet to attach what was cut in step 2 to the legs/arms
4. Do a blanket stitch along the outer edge of the - When you have ALL of the face/tummy details stitched on AND the arms/legs stitched you will stitch EVERYTHING together – I did a blanket stitch (detailed directions in this post if you want to reference) around the outside edge making sure to add in the arms/legs when needed. I did just a running stitch through the back, front and the arms/legs when I got to that part of stitching the whole Bluey character together! 🙂
I have a video on my Instagram if you are a visual person and want to see some visuals (although not a full detailed step by step).
Have fun doing this – I tend to LOOOOVE LOVE LOVE stitching during busy seasons or moments in life because it forces me to sit down and do something slow and connected and creative! I love it. It grounds me and gives me joy! 🙂 Put on a few movies and have fun with this project! And as always, email or message if you have questions or need anything further (I am sure I will be adding more characters as time passes per Esther’s request once she knows I made these for her)! 🙂
I have a *16* year old daughter who is going to be very happy! Yes, Bluey is a thing amongst high schoolers. Bingo is her favorite and I looked and looked and looked for a Bingo ornament. Thank you so very much and I thank Instagram for suggesting your account to me.
