I have endless love and appreciation for teachers…..I mean, I only teach suppppper duper part time in an art room and I alawys say that I could never be a “real teacher”! Real teachers have ENDLESS patience, incredible knowledge on how to reach every level of student, perfect ability to reign in a classroom, they have spunk and fun and passion for what they do, they teach on the days even when their personal life is a struggle and show up for kids and they connect with parents and students and genuinely, wholeheartedly believe that kids can change the world!
Basically put: TEACHERS CHANGE LIVES! πŸ™‚

So, why not create a simple, little DIY to make those end-of-the-year gift cards that we shower on our teachers, extra cute and special, eh?! πŸ™‚ Grab the full tutorial on how to make a crayon gift card holder, a pencil gift card holder, a notebook paper gift card holder, an apple gift card holder, a book gift card holder and a star gift card holder BELOW! πŸ™‚

Each of these teacher themed gift card holders can be TOTALY and completely customized to fit your favorite things about your teacher (ie, writing the subject or your favorite memory or even just a cute little note from you or your kiddo to the teacher)! And don’t forget about specials, lunch helpers, administration, office assistants, learning therapists, school nurses, custodians and ANYYYY and all helpers to make our schools the best places for these kiddos! πŸ™‚

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Cardstock and paper in your preferred colors
  • A bottle of Aleene’s Tacky glue (this stuff dries amazingly fast and is perfectly tacky for this project)
  • Sharp scissors or a cutting machine
  • Pens, markers or pencils for your personalized note
  • A gift card to make your teacher(s) feel so special and loved

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Download the SVG or PDF files and begin cutting all pieces

If you are uploading your SVG files into a cutting design space (like Cricut or Silhouette or something) make sure that the sizing is correct. A gift card is approx. 3 1/2” x 2 1/4” so just be sure that the sizing of your biggest shape will fit the gift card with enough space to glue πŸ™‚

Also, be sure that when you pull these SVG’s into your design space, that each of the elements are “attached” together (for the front separately than the back). To do this, you can select the layers that “go together” on the right side and then hit “attach” on the bottom of the right side panel. This may already be the case for teh files (I tried to design them that way, but occasionally my eyeballs miss these small details)! πŸ™‚

2. After cutting but before assembling, add some of the graphic elements to the lined paper and the book, specifically! I just took a pen and ruler to add the details needed to make them look amazing! Feel free to add any other details to make your gift card holders extra special at this time πŸ™‚

3. Now it’s time to assemble the gift card holders – pay close attention to the elements and where the β€œpocket” is so that you don’t glue that completely down (each holder is designed with a pocket to slide the gift card into). When glueing the pocket, be sure to use the ahhhhh-mazing pointed tip on the Aleene’s Tacky glue so that you get a nice, clean, thin line around the outer edge to adhere the pocket to the shape without completely glueing it on. πŸ™‚

Once assembled, I like to place the gift card holders under a heavy book or flat object to fully dry – typically only 30ish minutes to dry FULLY! πŸ™‚

4. The last step, once the gift card holders are dry, is time to embellish, customize and insert your fave gift cards for your fave teachers, specialists, assistants, principals, custodians, office helpers, nurses and MORE! πŸ™‚
