MATERIALS:

  • Felt in your fave “pie” colors (I found the 9×12 sheets at Michaels were perfect for this project)
  • Sharp scissors or your fave cutting machine (Cricut, Momento, Silhouette)
  • Your fave sewing machine
  • A hot glue gun + hot glue (or your fave glue)
  • Straight pins for pinning in place
  • A pencil or fabric pen
  • White pom poms (optional for whipped cream on pie)
  • Some string for the garland and needle for stringing it

  1. Cut out your pieces to your pies using either the SVG file or the PDF (download below)
Be sure to cut out 2 triangles for the top and bottom (and optional laddice) as well as a 1″ strip for the top crust for each pie. You will also need a few 1.5″ pieces for the side (or depth) of the pie.

2. Start to sew your pies:

Start by folding over your top pie piece in half lengthwise so that you find the “middle” of the top of the pie triangle. Mark the middle with a pencil, fabric marker or pin.

Then begin to sew the sides of the pie onto the pie top. Line up one of the 1.5″ side strips at the top “middle mark” and make sure the edge of the side strip is flush to the outside edge of the top pie (wrong sides together). Begin stitching in place carefully around the whole outer of the pie top leaving an overlap of the 1.5″ side strip before clipping any extra strip length.

*note: I had to sew 2 side strips together lengthwise to make sure that my strip went all the way around the pie triangle completely (you may want to do this before beginning to stitch the sides onto the pie top). Just measure and plan accordingly depending on the sizing of the felt that you have purchased or are using!

Now you will add the bottom of the pie triangle to what you’ve already sewn. To make sure your pie is “centered” you will line up the middle line of your bottom pie triangle (marked at the beginning of this step) to the beginning of the 1.5″ side strip. Making sure that the edge of flush to the pie, begin stitching in place all the way around the pie triangle.

3. Now it’s time to add your top crust. Do this with your 1″ strip and glue it to the top of your top pie triangle – in however you want to “finish” your crust! I did an overlap, glue type method 🙂

You can also add any pom-pom (or other white detail) for the whipped cream topping 🙂

4. Then to finish everything off, you can thread a piece of string with a needle and weave the string through the top longest edge of each pie triangle.
