Painted Rock Family DIY

This delightful DIY turns ordinary rocks into charming miniature versions of you and your loved onesโeach with their own personality, outfits, and flair. I mean, can it get any better?!?!?!
I painted these rocks to add to our front garden because I just love our little family and wanted to celebrate that with a some garden “statues” at the entrance to our house – I mean, CUTE, eh?! ๐
I have some tips and tricks below if you want to paint some rock people or a rock family for your garden!

MATERIALS:
- Rocks
- Acrylic paints and brushes in a variety of sizes
- Paint Pens (Posca brand is my fave)
- some chalk for blocking out shapes
- Some sealant (I used Colorshot matte sealer and it was AMAZING)!
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Gather your rocks and give them a good wash to remove any dirt and other things (if you don’t, the paint will stick to the dirt and not the rock and easily come right off)
2. Block out your faces and clothes using chalk – this helps visualize what you are going to paint before you paint. This makes it easier to move things around or change your mind (even though paint is SO paint-over-able so it wouldn’t be a big deal to change your mind later, but this is a god step)!

3. Just being to paint your rocks! Here are some tips:
- Think of everything in layers and start with the underlayer for both the face and clothing – add details at the end.
- Begin with the faces, set each one aside to dry.
- Once it dries, then move onto the clothing or the bottom of the rock.
- Use a paint marker for the details

4. When everything is good and dry (like really dry) then add your seal coating over top – I used Colorshot matte spray and it was *PERFECTION* I did 2 coats fully on the rocks (had to turn them, spray, let dry, multiple times before fully done! ๐

I displayed our family of rocks in our front garden so that they could greet everyone that walked in!
I had to make my daughters favorite stuffy (the hot dog dog named Hottie) into a rock too, since he’s basically part of the family ๐

OH- and I also made one more “character” out of an extra rock we had. My daughter named him Howard (Howie for short) because she thinks he looks like a business man that has a fancy job with his tie ๐
