Colorful fall(ish) felt wreath DIY
I am the “THE MORE COLOR THE BETTER” kind of decorator – especially for seasons or holidays. So of course when it came to making a new fall wreath for our door, I wanted to bring in as much “fall” colors as possible – so with some oranges and browns and pinks and magentas and mustards and other colors of felt, off I went to make this (what I think) is a colorful welcome to fall for our house! π
The full DIY, pattern, and instructions are below so that you can make one of your own! π
MATERIALS:
- Felt in various colors
- Coordinating bottles of Tulip puff paint for leaf vein details
- Wreath form (wooden one preferably)
- Hot glue or glue of choice
- Sharp scissors or cutting machine (like Cricut or Silhouette or Singer Momento)
- Pattern or SVG file for the leaves
- a great fall movie or show to put on in the background while you craft (DUH! π
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Using your pattern of choice (download below), cut out your leaves from felt. I cut out about 5-6 leaves per color. (I had a few extra leaves per color leftover when I was done, but I wanted to have enough). You can choose to resize the leaf sizes in the SVG when cutting depending on the size of the wreath form that you purchased.
2. When all your leaves are cut out, group them into colors so that you can start to add the vein details. I chose a “close enough” but not exact matching color for each leaf vein. (Ie, with the magenta, I chose a lighter pink so that it stood out on the leaf when dry).
To make the vein details, simply put the tip of the Tulip puff paint bottle onto the felt leaf and make the middle long “stem” first and then add 3-4 smaller veins coming off of the longer vein towards the tip of the leaf. Make sure each leaf is not exact to add variation.
Set aside to dry completely.
3. With your glue gun, you will want to add a dot or small line of glue to the stem and bottom of the leaf so that you can pinch the sides together to create a little “crease”. Hold your pinch fingers until the glue is set or completely dry and repeat this with the remainder of your felt leaves.
4. Start glueing your leaf wreath together by laying/layering your leaves around your wreath form. I chose to lay each color (4-6 leaves at at time) onto the wreath to give me a visual and move them around as necessary before beginning to glue them down.
When you’re all done, stand back to admire your work and then hang it on your favorite door for some happy-fall greetings! π
