Esther is 4 and she loves LaCroix water! She drinks it every night I allow her to (especially on Friday night movie + pizza night…because the more bubbly, the better on those fun nights πŸ™‚
So when she asked if I could make her a LaCroix costume, why would I say no? And then when she asked if I could also make myself a matching one, my heart melted! OBVI! πŸ™‚

This costume took not much time at all (and I realize people say that often, BUUUUUT this one is essentially 4 materials) and within a 1/2 day (or so) I had these costumes done!!!

MATERIALS:

  • Canvas type fabric (we used 3 yards for both Mom/Daughter costumes)
  • Paint in various colors for choice of LaCroix flavorBrushes
  • Hot Glue gun
  • Wire or coat hangers
  • Pliers (needle nose are prob best)
  • Elastic or ribbon for shoulder straps
  • Ribbon or headband for pop top
  • Cardboard
  • Metallic paint or spray paint

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. MEASURE BODY + CUT FABRIC:
Measure your fabric against your body and cut to the desired length + width. Be sure that you give yourself enough clearance to be walking around in the costume.

2. PAINT!
Mix the colors needed and begin to paint the background colors of the can. Reference the can or a photograph of your desired flavor for precise details of where to paint what colors πŸ™‚ Basically the painting will be broken up into 3 “layers”: The background main colors, the brighter accents + underneath blue swooshes and the the lettering! Start in the background and work towards the brighter accents and finish with the lettering, You can make this process as simple or complex as desired πŸ™‚

3. Lettering + add finishing detailsΒ
Add the β€œLaCroix” lettering along with any other words that you want on the can. You can choose to draw + paint this on OR you can use a Cricut to cut out the lettering if you want to! The LaCroix lettering I eye-balled (it’s way easier than you think cease this font isn’t exact) and the font for the other wording of the LaCroix can is called: Chalet 1970 (you can purchase the font or find a similar one for free if you want to just print off the lettering).Β

4. Wire + Glue
With pliers, unwind your coat hanger (or wire) to be straight and then begin working it in a circle for the top part of the can. Basically you will use the coat hanger as a “stabilizer” to make the can easily in a circle around your body. Use hot glue to glue the wire to the top inside (about 1″ down from the top inside) of the can. Work the wire around the inside of the can and begin to shape the canvas into a circle.
When you’ve reached the “beginning” again, you can glue the 2 vertical sides together to finish forming your circle πŸ™‚

5. Arm holes + Straps
Use a cup, bowl or something circular to draw arm holes in the spots where you want them to be. Then cut out with scissors. With hot glue + ribbon, you can add shoulder straps to the top inside of the costume for added support (I only added them to Esther’s….mine didn’t need them as it was stable from the armholes alone….but if you plan to run around in costume all night, the straps would be a nice addition).

6. Pop top headband πŸ™‚
With some extra cardboard, trace and cut out the pop top and spray with metallic paint. Hot glue the top to a headband or extra piece or ribbon for the hairpiece! πŸ™‚
Template for the pop top is HERE!

  1. I have so many questions. Ha ha. First, how do you know what size to make the font on cricut? Second, did you mix the paint colors yourself or did you buy them the right colors? I feel like you would need a ton of paint for the first layer. Would you recommend spray painting that part? I will stop there for now! Thank you!!!

    1. Hi Sarah! YESSS! You can totally use spray paint. I bought some bottles of acrylic paint from WalMart and just did my best to match them! It wasn’t too hard to find the colors that were close (even without mixing). The paint covered pretty quickly and well, so I only bought one bottle of each color (but the fabric I used was pretty “canvasy” so it didn’t soak in a whole ton and leave streaks if that makes sense)! πŸ™‚

  2. Thank you so much! I matched our colors and just got some paint – although your colors seem brighter and mine are more grim lol. Stay tuned! We are trying a hula hoop instead of a wire. It’s me – a not very crafty or artsy mom- and a nine year old so this should be entertaining. πŸ™‚
